Ace online physio for sore shoulders

Shoulder pain can present in a number of different ways, from the painful “frozen shoulder” that hurts all the time and doesn’t move, to the acute dislocation from a rugby tackle, to the tendinitis or bursitis that makes your shoulder sore when you lift it or lie on it. The issue could be that your shoulder is truly tight or unstable, or it could be compensating for a stiff ribcage or twisted pelvis. Shoulder pain treatment starts with understanding the real causes.

Why do I get shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain can present in a number of different ways, from the painful “frozen shoulder” that hurts all the time and doesn’t move, to the acute dislocation from a rugby tackle, to the tendinitis or bursitis that makes your shoulder sore when you lift it or lie on it. The issue could be that your shoulder is truly tight or unstable, or it could be compensating for a stiff ribcage or twisted pelvis. Shoulder pain treatment starts with understanding the real causes.

We often hold a lot of stress in our shoulder region, which is especially relevant during lockdown; and most of us are moving less and sitting more. Even worse, we’re spending more time working from home and sitting in chairs that don’t fit us well, so that our arms aren’t properly supported – which increases the tension we hold in our neck/shoulder muscles!

Why Nell can help with shoulder pain

I’m Nell, a physiotherapist and former British Army Major. Over the last 20 years, I have helped thousands of people get better, even when it seemed like no one else could help. My success rate is directly tied to my treatment philosophy: helping you recover involves looking at your whole body, not just the bit that hurts. I can follow the clues and trace many problems back to their source and resolve them. The more information I have, the more precise I can be with treatment. And the more precise and targeted the treatment, the faster you start seeing improvements and relief.

Since the start of lockdown, I’ve been developing ways to assess and treat patients with shoulder pain online. It’s not the same as coming into clinic, but I can still do a lot, and have still helped lots of people to make a full recovery from their shoulder problems.

How will you help me?

Using encrypted video technology, I can observe how you use your whole body, directing you to make specific movements that can help us uncover the real source of your shoulder pain. If necessary, I can refer you for a scan or to see a consultant; but most of the time we can analyse the cause of your shoulder issue and treat it with bespoke, targeted physiotherapy – a combination of exercises and self-applied manual therapy that I can teach you during online treatment sessions.

While my central London clinic is closed, if specialist hands-on treatment is really necessary, and if we both agree that the benefits of physiotherapy outweigh the risks of coronavirus transmission, then I may be able to visit your home – but most of my shoulder pain patients are making a good recovery with online treatment alone.
